Hero Genuine Kick Starter Spindle – 28250AAL500S
Restore smooth and reliable manual kick-start operation with the Hero Genuine Spindle Comp., Kick Starter, part number 28250AAL500S. This model-specific kick-start shaft/spindle assembly is used in compatible Hero Pleasure Plus, Duet, Maestro Edge, Maestro Edge 125, Destini 125 and Xoom scooter engine and CVT kick-start mechanisms.
When the rider presses the external kick lever, the kick-starter spindle rotates and transfers movement through the matching kick-start gear and ratchet mechanism. This mechanical movement turns the engine starting system so the engine can be started manually when the complete kick-start assembly is correctly fitted and serviceable.
A bent, worn, stripped, seized, cracked or damaged spindle can cause the kick lever to slip, jam, fail to return, move without turning the engine, make abnormal grinding noises or lose engagement with the driven gear. The entire kick-start mechanism must be inspected because similar symptoms can also come from the kick-driven gear, return spring, bush, collar, washer, circlip, ratchet, drive face or crankcase-cover mounting area.
This listing is for one kick-starter spindle assembly only. Despite the official wording “Spindle Complete Kick Starter,” it is not the complete kick-start system and does not include the external kick lever, driven gear, return spring, bush, washers, circlip, starter ratchet, CVT drive face or crankcase cover.

Compatibility Boundary
Hero uses multiple kick-starter spindle designs across Pleasure, Maestro, Maestro Edge, Duet, Destini and Xoom generations. Similar-looking parts can differ in shaft length, toothed profile, bush diameter, washer position, circlip groove and mating gear geometry.
No automatic compatibility is claimed for:
- Older Hero Pleasure and Hero Maestro applications using 28250-KVT-900
- Specified Maestro Edge and Duet applications using 28250-AAW-000
- Every scooter carrying the Pleasure, Maestro Edge, Destini or Xoom name
- Any scooter whose kick-start catalogue specifies a different spindle number
- Any Honda scooter merely because its kick mechanism looks similar
- Any vehicle from which the complete kick-start mechanism has been deleted or changed
Fitment Note / Return Prevention Note
Before ordering, match the complete Hero part number 28250AAL500S or catalogue number 28250-AAL-500 with the scooter’s chassis/VIN-based drive-face or kick-starter assembly catalogue.
Confirm all of the following:
- Exact scooter model, variant and production generation
- Engine and CVT cover configuration
- Existing spindle part number
- Overall shaft length and diameter
- Kick-lever spline or mounting-end profile
- Internal toothed/engagement profile
- Circlip groove and washer arrangement
- Bush and crankcase-cover bore dimensions
- Matching kick-driven gear part number
- Return-spring and collar arrangement
- Part number shown in the drive-face or kick-starter catalogue
Do Not Confuse This Spindle With Other Hero Kick Shafts
- 28250AAL500S / 28250-AAL-500 — spindle covered by this listing
- 28250KVT900S / 28250-KVT-900 — separately catalogued for specified older Pleasure and Maestro applications
- 28250AAW000S / 28250-AAW-000 — separately catalogued for specified Maestro Edge and Duet applications
These spindle numbers are not automatically interchangeable. Always match the complete SKU and assembly diagram.
Separately Catalogued Kick-Start Components
Confirmed kick-start assemblies list the following components separately from this spindle:
- 28223-GCC-000 — kick-driven gear spring
- 28230-AAL-500 — kick-driven gear assembly
- 28253-KVT-900 — kick-spindle bush
- 28255-KPL-900 — kick-boss collar
- 28281-GCC-000 — kick-return spring
- 90412-329-000 — 10 mm thrust washer
- 90451-KVT-900 — kick-spindle washer
- 90608-KVT-901 — external circlip, 16 mm
- 22109-AAL-500 — starter ratchet on applicable drive-face assemblies
- External kick lever, kick-lever bolt and rubber pedal — separate body/chassis parts where fitted
Later Destini and Xoom assemblies can also include revised starting-clutch, reduction-gear and drive-face parts around the kick mechanism. The presence of this shared spindle does not make the entire CVT or kick-start assembly interchangeable between models.
Diagnosis Before Replacement
A kick starter that slips, jams or does not return can also be caused by:
- Worn or broken kick-driven gear teeth
- Weak, broken or incorrectly installed kick-return spring
- Worn spindle bush or crankcase-cover bore
- Missing or incorrect washer, collar or circlip
- Damaged starter ratchet or drive-face teeth
- Incorrect kick-lever spline fitment
- CVT contamination, rust or lack of correct lubrication at specified points
- Incorrect previous assembly
- Mechanically tight or seized engine
Replacing the spindle alone will not repair a damaged driven gear, broken return spring, worn cover bore, failed ratchet or seized engine.
Mechanical-component return protection: Confirm the exact SKU before installing the bush, spring, circlip, washer or kick lever. A spindle showing spline marks, bush marks, gear-contact marks, circlip marks, hammering, filing, grinding, bending, grease contamination or operational use cannot be treated as an unused return.
