Installation Note
Spoke-wheel building is safety-critical and should be performed by a trained motorcycle wheel technician using the correct lacing pattern, wheel offset specification and truing stand.
Before Wheel Building
- Compare the new rim SKU with the old rim
- Compare the stamped rim diameter and width
- Inspect the rear hub for cracks, distortion and spoke-hole wear
- Inspect every spoke and nipple for corrosion, stretching, bending or thread damage
- Inspect the driven flange, cush-drive dampers and sprocket
- Check wheel and driven-flange bearings
- Inspect the axle, sleeve, collars, seals and O-rings
- Inspect the rear brake disc and ABS sensor ring
- Confirm the correct tyre, inner tube and rim flap
During Wheel Building
- Use the exact spoke-A and spoke-B lacing pattern
- Install every spoke in the correct hub and rim hole
- Engage nipple threads without cross-threading
- Centre the rim relative to the rear hub
- Maintain the specified wheel offset
- Tension spokes gradually and evenly
- Check lateral and radial runout on a truing stand
- Do not use uncontrolled hammering, welding or heat to force alignment
- Install a serviceable rim flap before fitting the tube
- Protect the new rim and tube from tyre-lever damage
After Assembly
- Balance the complete rear wheel
- Install the correct driven flange and cush-drive components
- Set rear-wheel and chain alignment correctly
- Adjust chain slack according to the motorcycle specification
- Tighten the rear axle and related fasteners to prescribed torque
- Confirm free wheel rotation
- Check rear brake-disc alignment
- Check ABS sensor-ring clearance
- Verify correct tyre seating
- Recheck spoke tension after the initial running period
Do not ride the motorcycle if the wheel has excessive runout, loose spokes, incorrect offset, abnormal tyre seating, brake drag or incorrect chain alignment.
