Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • Always replace chain and both sprockets together – mixing new & old parts kills kit life.

  • After installation, set chain slack to TVS spec (usually around 25–35 mm mid-span – confirm from your owner’s manual).

  • Re-torque front sprocket nut and rear sprocket nuts after the first 100–150 km, then at every service.

  • Clean with a soft brush and dedicated chain cleaner (or kerosene); avoid petrol, thinners or high-pressure jets directly on O-rings.

  • Lubricate every 500–700 km or after rain/washes using a good chain lube; never ride long with a dry, dusty chain.

  • Inspect periodically for tight links, excessive slack, rust or hooked teeth; replace the kit once these appear, even if odometer mileage seems low.

  • If your rear hub cush-drive rubbers are badly worn, replace them along with the kit for smoother take-off and less jerk.

Q1. Will Rolon KIT NOR 301 fit my Apache RTR 160 4V BS6?
A. Rolon’s catalog and Rolon Premium site list NOR 301 for Apache RTR 160 4V (BS4) and a different kit NXR F408 for BS6 4V. Many dimensions are similar (13T/45T, 138L), but to avoid returns we recommend BS6 owners confirm their OE kit code or tooth count before ordering, or choose the BS6-specific kit.

Q2. How is NOR 301 different from HBS 152 for RTR 160?
A. HBS 152 is for the older 2-valve Apache RTR 160 and uses a shorter 124-link chain with 13/44 gearing. NOR 301 is for the 4-valve RTR 160 and uses a 138-link O-Ring chain with 13/45 gearing. They are not interchangeable – using the wrong kit will upset wheelbase and sprocket alignment.

Q3. Is this better than a normal open chain kit?
A. Yes. NOR 301 uses an O-Ring sealed chain – the rings hold lubricant at the pin-bush area and block contaminants. That means far less stretch, quieter running and much longer life than basic open chains, especially in dusty Indian conditions.

Q4. Will upgrading to this Rolon kit change my bike’s mileage or top speed?
A. No major change. NOR 301 keeps the stock 13/45 tooth combination and 428 pitch, so your final drive ratio remains very close to OE. What you’ll notice is smoother pickup, less chain noise and more consistent performance over time as the chain doesn’t stretch as fast.

Q5. How do I know this is a genuine Rolon kit?
A. Genuine kits have KIT NOR 301 clearly printed on the box, proper Rolon branding, QR/maintenance graphics and come sealed from the factory. Under The Hood supplies only genuine, fresh stock with a GST invoice – we do not sell loose or repacked chains.
