The Royal Enfield 147956/B – BATTERY CABLE - NEGATIVE is the genuine earth/ground cable used on most UCE 350 & 500 singles – including Classic 350, Classic 500 EFI, Bullet 350 UCE(ES), Bullet 500 UCE, Electra 350 UCE(ES), Continental GT 535 and Rumbler 500 (Thunderbird 500 export).
The negative battery cable is critical: it connects the battery’s negative terminal to the engine/frame, providing a stable ground path for the entire electrical system. A corroded, cracked or loose cable can cause hard starting, weak horn/lights, random electrical issues and ECU glitches.
Replacing it with genuine 147956/B restores a clean, low-resistance ground and correct length/routing – especially important after battery relocation, repaint, wiring repairs or restoration. This is a direct-fit OEM cable, no cutting or crimping required when installed as per original routing.

FAQs
Q1. Which bikes use battery cable 147956/B?
Multiple independent Royal Enfield dealers list Classic 350, Classic 500, Bullet 350 UCE(ES), Bullet 500, Electra 350 UCE(ES), Continental GT and Rumbler 500 (BS3/BS4) for SKU 147956/B, and European fiche sites confirm the description as “BATTERY CABLE -NEGATIVE / CABLE MASSE” for Classic 500 variants.
Q2. Will this work on the new J-Series Classic 350 / Meteor / Hunter?
No. The new J-Series platform uses a different frame, battery position and wiring harness. Those models have their own dedicated negative cables and part numbers. 147956/B is for UCE-era 350/500 singles only (BS3–BS4).
Q3. What symptoms indicate I should replace the negative battery cable?
Common signs are slow or inconsistent cranking, dim lights at idle, intermittent horn/indicator behavior, random ECU resets or visible corrosion/green powder at the cable ends. If cleaning and tightening doesn’t help, replacing the cable with genuine 147956/B is a smart reliability upgrade.
Q4. Can I use a local aftermarket cable instead?
You can, but generic cables often have poorer copper quality, wrong length, weak lugs or cheap insulation, which can crack or overheat. The OEM 147956/B is sized and routed specifically for these Royal Enfield models, giving better long-term reliability and a clean, factory look.
Q5. Is installation difficult?
For most owners it’s straightforward: disconnect the battery, unbolt the old negative cable from the terminal and engine/frame point, route the new cable the same way, and tighten both ends. Always disconnect negative first, reconnect negative last, and if you’re unsure, let a qualified RE technician handle it.
